Common Australian Statement Challenges
We haven't seen an ANZ bank statement yet, but based on statements from other Australian banks we've processed, here are common challenges we handle:
Currency Only Shown in Column Header
Many Australian statements display the currency symbol only in the column header, not with each amount. We track the currency context throughout the statement to ensure all amounts are properly labeled with the correct currency.
Detected in BOQ, ING Bank
Inconsistent Date Formats
Many Australian statements use different date formats within the same document (e.g., "30 Jun 2025" for statement dates and "15/03/2025" for transactions), which can cause date parsing errors or silent misinterpretation. We normalize all dates to a consistent format automatically.
Detected in Commonwealth Bank of Australia, ING Bank
Separate Credit & Debit Columns
Many Australian statements use separate Credit and Debit columns in some formats, while others use a single Amount column with signs. Treating one layout like the other leads to wrong amounts or flipped signs. We automatically detect which layout is used and normalize the output.
Detected in BOQ, Bankwest, and 3 others
