👋 Hi, I'm Michael Duyvesteijn. I'm a solopreneur and the person behind Bankstatemently.
I built this tool myself because I've seen first-hand how painful and time-consuming it can be to work with bank statements. Having worked in fintech and payments (Maesh, Brick) and spent years working with banks, I know that innovation in this space is often slow. So I decided to build something simpler, faster, and more user-friendly, on my own.
Why this tool now?
With the advent of AI, it's finally possible to rethink how we process financial documents. Bankstatemently combines a dual engine approach:
- Rule-based parsing for determinism and reliability
- LLM-based parsing for flexibility and rapid improvement
The two reinforce each other, producing results that are both highly accurate and user-friendly. This not only saves time, but also supports trust and compliance, which is essential for accountants, auditors, and regulators.
Where this is going
While the focus today is bank statements, my vision is bigger:
- Multilingual support so professionals across markets can use it.
- Evaluation-first mindset: in a world where AI does the heavy lifting, the real value is knowing you can trust the output. That's why I'm building strong evaluation loops into the tool.
- Niche depth first: I want to solve bank statements extremely well before expanding into adjacent financial documents.
- Privacy-first option: depending on uptake, there's an opportunity to offer a version designed for clients with the strictest privacy needs.

A little more about me
I'm originally from the Netherlands, now based in Singapore. Over the past decade, I've founded multiple ventures, supported other founders as a VC scout, and contributed to local startup communities. Beyond fintech, I've built projects that combine design, data, and play, like Metrograf, an interactive visualization of Singapore's MRT network.
