Common Japanese Credit Card Statement Challenges
We haven't seen a JCB credit card statement yet, but based on statements from other Japanese banks we've processed, here are common challenges we handle:
No Selectable Text (Scanned PDF)
Many Japanese statements are often image-based PDFs with no selectable text, so copy-paste and standard PDF extractors return nothing useful. We use OCR and visual language models to read the page content and extract transactions accurately.

Abbreviated Year in Dates
Many Japanese statements use two-digit years in transaction dates (e.g., "15/03/25" instead of "15/03/2025"), which can be ambiguous across century boundaries. We automatically expand these to full four-digit years.

Bilingual Column Headers
Many Japanese statements show column headers and metadata labels in two languages (e.g., "Date / Tarikh"). We detect the relevant fields across both languages so transactions are captured consistently.
